I have been writing about me using Uber and Grab on a regular basis nowadays. And today, something embarassing happened because of this habit.
I was late for a charity run so I was really in a hurry. Usually I would have called for Uber or Grab but today I wanted to try my luck flagging down a cab because I didn’t want to wait. I think it was due to the early timing, I managed to flag down a cab immediately.
So the journey was the regular chit chat and stuff. And when I reached my destination, I said “Thank You! Bye!” and got off the cab. Regular affair ya? No. The cab driver honked me and stare at me puzzledly. He told me the cab fare is $10.80. I replied that I’m paying my credit card. And at that moment, I realised that I flagged down his cab! I didn’t use the apps. I apologize profusely and quickly paid him. And of course quickly disappeared from his view. It was pretty embarrassing.
Use of the apps has changed my habits. I’m so used to just paying via the apps that it has become 2nd nature. This is how technology is changing our way of life.
Luckily the driver didn’t have a violent reaction. I think he was pretty confused too.
