I love planting. I always thought having food in my own backyard is a cool thing. So when I moved in to my own place, I had this awkward 800mm x 900mm space that HDB calls a balcony. There’s nothing much we can do with the space there, so I had my plants there. I DIY’ed my own pots using Coke bottles to plant, guess what?
Cherry tomatoes! There was a great sense of achievement because before this, I could only succeed in growing bean sprouts.
I had herbs like mint and lemon balm too. And some other plants for decoration.
But as you can see from the picture, there was major construction work and my plants got dusty and dirty. It was rather messy. Sunlight was blocked. So. it wasn’t really suitable for planting anymore. So I cleared up the plants and never really got started with it again even now that the construction’s complete.
Lately however, a friend started talking about planting tomatoes and the interest is rekindled again. On top of it, I have a little kid. I think it would be interesting for her to do a little gardening every weekend and we could perhaps harvest and eat from our little garden.
So, that’s it! I shall get working this weekend and set up our little HDB garden. Hopefully I can share our harvest soon!
