Derren Brown accurately predicts winning lottery numbers in UK!

On a live show in UK, illusionist and mentalist, Derren Brown, predicted the 6 winning numbers for the UK lottery.

This is the video of the show where he performed the trick.

And in this video is a split screen recording of the prediction and the draw happening concurrently.

Can you find any loophole in his performance?

Of course, there’s bound to be trickery here. He’s an illusionist after all. And he has announced that he will reveal how he did the trick on 10th Sept. It’s just amazing how he pulled this off.

I wonder if Singapore Pools is open for him to try this stunt here in Singapore and predict the TOTO results.

There’s more information on Derren Brown here in case you have not heard of his name before. I haven’t by the way. I always thought David Blaine and Chris Angel were amazing, but this guy is equally good.

“We’re in it to win it!” – Oracle CEO to IBM

sun_oracle_wsj.jpg

This is found on Sun Microsystems‘ website. Oracle has spoken. That was the statement that Larry Ellison, Oracle CEO made.

There are alot of uncertainties on the future of Sun and MySQL ever since the announcement of the acquisition. And the European Commission’s recent probe into the deal didn’t help. This has resulted in Sun potentially losing substantial business to rivals like IBM and HP over the short span of 3 months.

Anyway, this should allay fears and uncertainties from customers and potential customer. I’m a Sun supporter myself. It’s good to see that the business carries on with better prospects and directions.

“S’pore broadband limps” – Straits Times

When I saw this heading, I can’t help laughing. ST can’t be more right. The article talks about why Singapore broadband lags behind. One of the reason quoted was that we do not have a high speed fibre network here. Do I agree? If you ask me, no. What do think? We are going to get our high speed fibre network in the next fews year to come. Let’s see how things turn out then.

M1 acquires Internet Service Provider Qala for S$14.9 million

My ex-employer got bought by M1. Here’s the news.

FTTH is here! Check your postal code now!

opennet signup.pngHas anyone checked the coverage check at OpenNet’s website lately? A friend of mine checked his postal code and was presented with the sign up page, presumably for the installation of the fibre into his home.

This means that his estate is probably one of the first to get access to the Next Generation Broadband Network when commercial operations starts next year in Q1. I’m looking forward to see more services leveraging on this potentially high speed network.

One of the items on my personal wish list is to see storage players providing high speed secured backup and data access. Coupled with the availability of wireless network (3G, Wireless@SG), I will be able to access a single copy of my data over my many devices, instead of having to transfer to them to each machine physically, or accessing them off a remote server. High speed helps, especially when I do WebDAV for editing some of my documents stored on the servers.

But while I’m excited with all the prospects, my estate at Tampines is only getting the fibre in 2011. Anti climax.
